Autumn wind up at the farm..
September 30, 2009Badhbh 2 Comments »So this week has been chilly, and there’s a smell in the air that says we’re pretty much done with Summer. The stores have their Halloween gear out, the pumpkins are taking over the grocery, and the blooms are fading off the last of the flowers. The wild Aster (some call it a weed) is one of the last ones to stop producing pollen. Naturally, every bee for miles comes to check it out. We had quite a crowd at Chez Bad Seed today, and a couple of guests that i’ve never seen before. So here you go…
This little lady is brand new this year. She’s GORGEOUS! And she’s made a decision to put her egg sack in our Bee Balm. It’s makes me happy that she’s decided to stick around.
This little girl is working hard, but I don’t know that there’s much she’s getting.
Coming in for a landing…
I don’t know what this is, but Matt thinks it’s a kind of lightning bug.
This little Bumble Buddy brought friends.
I wonder what KIND of Honey Bee this is.. I’ll have to ask on the bee forum. (UPDATE: It’s an Italian!)
I do not have the warm and fuzzies about this guy..

I had a spider just like that at my house right outside the back porch! Do you know what it is? It’s beautiful!
I killed mine.

The spider is a Garden Spider. They’re harmless, and very beneficial for gardens. I’m encouraging mine to stay, and she’s left me 3 egg sacks so far.
